Everyone's shouting at the government and condemning the action. Most of the protesters are angry because 12 Indonesians were aboard the ship with 2 injured due to the attack. What they shouted was mostly about helping their fellow Moeslems in in the Gaza strip. They feel that helping fellow Moeslems is the most important thing to do. Nothing wrong with that, but deep inside I feel that this is a false form of solidarity.

Most Indonesian Moeslems feel strong relationship and solidarity with those Moeslems in the middle-east region. A view that, in my humble opinion, blinds them from objectively seeing the actual fundamental root cause of the Israel - Palestine conflict. It's basically a conflict fighting for their territory. It will be the same conflict even if Palestine is inhabited by Hindus or Buddhist or whatever other religion. The conflict has nothing to do with religious views, just like the Iran-Iraq, Iraq-Kuwait, and the allied forces-Iraq conflict. All those conflicts happen because of human greed of oil, not because of religion.

Another thing about the solidarity is that most Indonesian Moeslems felt more moved to help their fellow in other areas like Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, and other Moeslem countries than those in their own country. I'm a Moeslem living in Indonesia and I can still see that we have a lot of Moeslems actually need help. Most of them are ignored by their fellow Indonesian Moeslems because their fellows are unable to see that their surroundings actually need help. I don't know whether they're helping those who are far for popularity or whether they're doing it for a good image. What I know is that our own Moeslems who are poor or disabled need help. Take a loot at slum areas. Take a look at the children in the streets, beggars, old poor widows, orphans and other people in need of a helping hand. Those are actually those who need our help most.

Today people are rallying the streets and causes severe traffic jam in the central business district. This actually causes problems for our own country because our own economy cannot perform business smoothly and this is wrong. If you want to do your good deeds by caring about those faraway fellows, fine by me. But please, do so in a way that does not cause problems for your fellows around you. As a Moeslem, I don't feel comfortable with this condition and I support more on doing good deeds by helping our Moeslem fellows in our own surroundings. Help those beggars, street children, and other fellow Indonesian Moeslems. You can see the actual effect and you're helping your country prosper by actually helping those in dire need. That, in my humble opinion, is a very good deed.

-E-

follow @femmerling on twitter

Dear Humans...

Welcome to the world full of hatred and greed. A world where differences are treated like sins. A world where violence is the first, not the last resort.

Humans have forgotten so many values, important and fundamental values I should say. Now humans let their anger control themselves and destroy their own world. Some people say that they care about peace, but still they try to make peace by performing violence. In the end, violence is the one that will be harvested.

What happenned to peace? What happened to unity? What happened to tolerance? What happened to the feeling of care for fellow human beings? Even animals care about their own kind and they do not prey their own kind. Why do we humans kill other humans and take advantage from others?

This world is now deteriorating, not slowly but fast. If everyone goes by this direction we're heading into, we'll see the end of mankind anytime soon. When greed, hatred and violence control people's lives, the world is not going to be a better place.

I'm just a regular guy, not some guy with powers to control the world. Now, I'm inviting you all to look back in time, to remember the fundamental values of human lives. Remember that we need to have care, peace, unity, tolerance, and olso see differences as a beauty. Hopefully that way we'll have a better world to live in. Not only for us, but also for our future generations.

-E-

Follow @femmerling on twitter

intanstore.com opens!

After wanting for years to open her own boutique, finally my wife gets what she wants. Thanks to the web and prestashop e-commerce software, my wife opens intanstore, the fashion online shop at http://www.intanstore.com/. I managed the tech issues while she runs the shop.
Intanstore sells couple shirts, family shirts, and other unique accessories. Our wide range of clothign series fits couples and families at any age, of course all within affordable price range.

There are 2 things I'd like to highlight from the opening of the store. First, the store is using a web strategy as a prototype of Emfeld Web Consulting's e-commerce web strategy model. The strategy covers the channels, day-to-day routines, data analysis, and milestones. This software helps you manage your website for standard usage. The software uses the CodeIgniter PHP framework as the main platform. The development started 8 months ago with our Chief Development Officer, Fauzan Erich Emmerling leading the development team.

The software offers basic page management tools using the intanware back-end system. The system utilizes the Xinha WYSIWYG editor to edit the HTML pages. The pages are optimized for better better rankings in search engine query results. You can add unlimited page to your website as long as the capacity allows you to do so. Current default page includes the home page, about page, and a standard contact form. You can customize the pages using the easy-to-use back-end system.

Currently the intanware v.1.0 is implemented in our client PT Ginsa Inti Pratama, a fastener manufacturing company. The intanware is customized to show Ginsa's product showcase. In this project, Emfeld Web Technology cooperates with Pandaweb, a design company that handles Ginsa's company profile.

Emfeld Web Technology offers the standard handle-it-yourself package and a tailor-made development package integrated with web design handled by Pandaweb.

Contact us at http://www.emfeld.com or email us at info@emfeld.com and get your special price.

The Emfeld Team

Follow Emfeld Web Technology @emfeldweb
Follow Fauzan Erich Emmerling @femmerling

Visit our website http://www.emfeld.com/

Living Now, Not In The Past, and Looking Forward To The Future

There's no one in this world without a past. The people you see today are results of a proses happening at previous times. Be it being born, graduating from education, broken hearts, marriages, divorces, traumatic experiences, and a lot of other things, you name it yourself. Everybody writes their own history even though they may not direct it themselves.

All of the historic moments actually formed us into what we are today. Writing this post is also a result of my own personal history. These histories we had, some are nice and memorable, some are average, and some are those moments you wish to only happen in your nightmares. Despite of the fact that the nature differs from one history to another, it shares one characteristic, there will always be lessons behind all the experiences.

Learning the lesson is not always done by most people. This causes the historic moments to repeat itself along the life of those people. Some people had similar accidents twice or three times because they never learn the root cause of the accident. This is easier said than done but is also not impossible. It's just that some people tend to ignore that fact that the lesson is there. They spend too much time in their sadness, looking for scapegoats and regretting their lives. This leads to endless denial of the solution that they actually need, the lessons learned behind each events.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. And that reason is that you should learn from the events happening in your lives, be it positive or negative events. Having emotion is very human. However, we should control it at any time. This, stables us as humans and gives us a more objective view of the events happening. When our emotions control us, we are blurred and distracted from the reality and we can not see the root cause in the right way. So, in order to be able to see the causes clearly, we have to learn to control it. That way, we can have a crystal clear view of the events and a better view of the causes and the lessons behind everything that happens in our lives.

But then the question rises. How do you control your emotion when going through emotional moments? Do you kill that emotion? No, you don't kill the emotion as we humans are emotional beings. Instead, you let it penetrate you fully. Feel the most of pain that you can. That way you'll be fed up of the pain easier and in the end being able to control it. You might be able to say, "Okay, I've had enough pain for now. What can I do to make it go away and prevent it from coming back?". When you've reached that stage, you are able to control your emotion. It might be tough at first. You might spend a lot of time dealing with it. But, through time you'll be able to control your emotions faster.

When you're able to control it and see the lessons behind the moments, LEARN!!! Why? You still have a future ahead of you and you still have to embrace the current moment you're living in. Those leassons learned from your own history are lessons you'll never find in school. Apply the lessons and see for yourself the improvements you can make to your life. The things you experience now are your next lessons for your future so you have to always take a positive mindset of learning from everything.

Bottom line, don't regret your past and don't hate it. If you're someone bad in the past, then you can be a better person now and in the future if you want to learn the lesson.

So, control yourself in all your moments and learn the important lessons behind it. Look forward with those lessons and live positively. I'll meet the improved you in the future.

-E-

Follow @femmerling on twitter

The Era of Social Media

I remembered the time I started using internet. It was 1999. Everything was still a one way web and I remembered that using email and MIRC was something magical simply because it connected people.

Then, I remembered sometime around 2003 when I started using friendster, my first social web experience. It was nice for a first timer. You get to have your own profile page, you can show your favorite pictures and you can post testimonials.

But then, as time moves on, all of that is no longer enough. Soon after that, I started using myspace, then facebook, then twitter, then Google Wave and the latest addition just a few days ago, Google Buzz.

I wrote about Web 2.0 and its impact for my graduate thesis and during my research I found that the web will eventually become more social. This is because people then spend more and more time online. In the end, the web is not just a tool people use for communication. Now, it's a media where people meet. Take a look at Second Life. They really create a virtual world for people to meet. This is actually a good thing because usually people spend hours in front of a computer not socializing with others. Now people feels that they have a life on the net, just like I used to have an 18 hour daily journey around the net during a job I took back in 2007. I felt that the net is my home. Even in my sleep I dreamed of going online.

But then again, every good thing must have a negative side. Sexual predators, hackers and other bad guys wandered around the internet, especially inside the social medias. In Indonedia, the country I live at, the facebook hype is amazing. Almost anyone wants to have an account. This condition is also supported by the telco companies offering the so called "cheap online phones" with facebook application installed. People are into social medias a lot. But, most of them are not aware of the risk posed by this condition. We can see in the news that for the past couple of weeks, several teenagers have been missing and was seen online before missing. Most of these people are new to the internet and does not even know about using it safely. The government also does not have the awareness program for the citizens. It is the government's obligations to educate the users as well as the telco companies to ensure that people are aware of the danger but know how to use it safely.

Even though the internet is a dangerous place, it is a very useful media. Not only for social use but also for a lot of other things. I google almost every question I have in mind because I know there's an answer out there somewhere. It still is the largest information pool in the world. And, of course, with the hectic work I have, social media is my way of keeping up with my social community and I thank the era of social media for that.

Google Buzz is something I'm exploring for now as it provides a way to integrate some of my web resources in a social kind of way and I think it's good. But, in the future I'm looking forward to something that connects social events, people's location, interests, and most of all, having all the twitter, facebook, buzz, and wave capabilities.

So, do you know how to use your social media safely and effectively?

-E-

Follow @femmerling
Visit my company EmFeld Web Technology

Life Changes, Life Takes You to Places

Daily life is unstoppable. Moreover, it is also unpredictable and fast changing. About a year and a half ago, I can never tell what my life would be during that period of time. At that time I was unemployed, finishing my thesis, and trying to do some freelance jobs just to survive. I thought that I'd simply finish my master degree and try my luck by going seriously at the freelance business market. I couldn't think of working a full time job for a big company or even marriage. The only thing I have in mind is that those things will come after a few years.

But then, in a matter of months, everything started to change. Yes, I did finish my master degree in time. But then, 2 days from my thesis defense, I got a call from a big company setting up a job interview. The company is a big 4 consulting firm and is very capable in the field of governance consulting, the field of my dreams. A few days afterwards I did the interview and 4 days from there I was hired as a senior consultant. Things were since then moving rapidly, I got assigned at big clients and I got married in less than six months after I started working. Then here I am, one and a half years from that point of time. A consultant at a big company, a married man with a charming little baby girl and I don’t know where life will take me for the next one and a half year from now.

Another story of how fast life changes comes from a former colleague of mine. We called him "Bang Udin". Bang Udin was a very senior worker at the company I work for. At that time he has been working for the company for over 14 years. But then issues started to appear and he was forced to resign from the company. He was depressed but he goes on with life, in the mean time also struggling to make himself a certified public accountant. A couple of months after he resigned, I met him at a food court near a client I was assigned. He was working at a 2nd level public accountant firm nearby. He said he's on his way to become a partner in the firm because he was already a certified public accountant at that time. That was the last time I saw him for months. Life goes on of course.

About 2 months ago, the company I work for won a very big project at a national airline. A lot of people, best personnel I should say, were assigned to the project. But everyone was shocked during the kick-off meeting of the project. The meeting was opened and the general manager of the accounting department was supposed to address the meeting. And then, it was Bang Udin, the person that the company forced to resign, that addressed the meeting. And I'd say that he's a big hearted man. He still is the same person we all know. No heart feelings whatsoever. Strictly professional. The group leader that forced him to resign is now a client that has to serve him. But then there he was still being nice to that person that gave him quite a headache back in time. And that was the story of Bang Udin.

What can we learn from both stories? A few things actually.
First, you can plan your future but life is always the deciding factor. Sometimes you'd think you be something else but instead you become the opposite. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you don’t become as what you have planned earlier. Life takes mysterious turns and you will be able to understand the purpose only when you are thankful of where ever life takes you to. You can’t take the full driving control. You can only plan the trip.

Second, be nice to people. You don’t know what that person will be in a couple of months. He can be someone that has control over you or perhaps someone else with more power. If that person is nice like the case of Bang Udin, he will not have the feeling of vengeance. But if the person is someone vengeful, then you'll be in deep trouble. Treat others equally and treat them the way you want to be treated. I know it sounded cliché, but hey, I think it's true.

Third, be grateful for whatever you get in life. Some say that life's like a wheel, or perhaps like a box of chocolate and I'd say that those words are true. You don’t know what you'll get. Sometimes you're down, and sometimes you're up. And foremost, it can all happen in a short period of time. When you're grateful, it will be easier for you to look at the skies and survive the tough times when you're down in the ground. Being grateful will also keep your feet in the ground when you're flying high in the skies. It gives you more balance in life. So be grateful in everything you experience.

Bottom line, life is mysterious and it changes fast. It can change a homeless into a rich person and a rich person into a homeless. So, plan your life but remember that the biggest deciding factor is life itself. And remember that everyone is created equally. Therefore, you have to treat everyone with equal respect, just as you want to be respected by others.

May the mysterious ways bring you a wonderful experience and may all of you can be grateful in every single moment you experience.

-E-

Follow @femmerling on twitter

Mysterious Lessons

As humans live their lives, they went through various events. Some events are pleasant and give them nice memories. But on the other hand, other events are painful and sometimes leave deep wounds inside one's memories.

Some people curse these conditions. I say, that you should be thankful of what ever happens in your life. If you try to look deeper, you can actually find lessons behind every single event that took place in the history of your life. Say for example, you lost the one you love because that person thinks that that person cant be with you. Some might think that it's the end of their lives. Some might curse the condition and grew hatred inside their heart. Some others might be confused and perhaps even be scared of starting relationships. This condition is actually the time for you to reflect and ask yourselves. What can you do to make yourself a better person.

I know it's easy to whine about the conditions you face. But, whining will block you from seeing the actual lesson behind the events in your lives. Whining creates a mental barrier that can actually be bad for your emotional health and also for your self development.

So, what can we do to overcome these conditions?

That one, you have to ask yourselves because the answer depends on your wisdom. If you ask me, I'll say that you have to look around and be thankful first before you do anything else. Why? Sometimes people forget that actually there are people with worse problems compared to what they're going through. Try to be thankful and accept the condition you're facing. Next, you need to have a postive mindset. You need to prioritize in seeing things from the positive sides. I'm not saying that you neglect the negative sides cuz you'll need that negative sides later on in order to reflect. My point is, you need to focus more on the postive sides because that way you can find lessons and views that you cant get when you're seeing the event from negative sides.

I've been through lots of events in my life, both pleasant and painful, and I'm thankful for all those events because those events built me into the person I am now. Am I satisfied with who I am now? The answer would be yes and no. Yes, because I'm a better person compared to who I used to be and I've learned more lessosns of life every single day. No, because the only thing constant is change and I need to change to adjust with the conditions of life. That way, I am making myself a better person every single day.

Now, the question is, how do you define a better condition? Well, my friend, the answer lies inside all of you. It depends on how you respect yourselves. It depends on how you value your lives. It depends on what your expectations are. There will never be a fix answer for this question because we, humans, are unique individuals who have unique point of views.
In the end, ask yourselves, do you want to learn and improve? Or would you rather be upset and being left behind?

The answer lies inside all of you and the choice is yours.

Good luck

-E-

Follow @femmerling on twitter

Our Lives and Our Pasts

I believe in the butterfly effect. They say that a single flap of a butterfly's wings will contribute a little piece to a tornado happening a year from now. When we apply this to our lives, it means that every little thing we do, will contibute to something that we will experience in the future. I tend to forget this theory when I'm living life.

Everything you do has a connection towards something else in the future. For example, reading this article might cause you to, perhaps, changing your own life path because you finally learn something new. You can see how people tend to blame situations and conditions for what is happening in life. But, you should actually see that something you did in the past contributes to the situation and condition that you're facing. Nothing is happening without any precedent.

So, what can we learn from this? Several things, actually.

First, think carefully when you're about to decide or do something because it may affect your future. It doesn't mean that you have to think about every single details, it's just that you have to think of the big picture of what can happen when you're about to do something. I believe in carpe diem. But, I think of consequences as well every now and then because it can happen sooner or later, right?

Second, try to look back to your actions in the past that might cause the consequences to take place. Most of the time, we humans, forget to reflect back to ourselves and tend to feel victimized by the situation and condition we're facing. Now, this is wrong, and this causes high ego in humans because we tend to blame external factors. Look back to ourselves and ask yourselves, have you done anything wrong in the past.

Third and last, learn from what've happened to you. Whether now or in the past, things that happened in your lives will always have a lesson behind it. Humans do make mistakes, true. But the best of humans learn from their mistake and try to make things better.
It's not easy to live life with all the path that we have to go through. But, you can always make the best of it. Live as if you will die tomorrow, but remember, maybe others won't die tomorrow and they want to have a good memory from you. Think, reflect back, and learn. That way, you can, at least, be a person that tries to see things from all perspectives and, hopefully, you'll be wiser.

Good luck

-E-

Follow @femmerling on twitter
